Advisories
Our community is advised to take extra precaution as cases are on a significant rise in Calhoun County, the state of Michigan, and now on campus.

*Changes in cases will be highlighted in the new update format to simplify community reporting.
What you can do:
To keep yourself and others safe, members of our community with symptoms should self-quarantine immediately and notify if you have any symptoms of COVID-19. Please continue to report symptoms in the Aura app daily, too. Immediate reporting of symptoms allows us to stop the spread of COVID-19 across campus. To bring the rate of infection down:
- Complete your daily health screening in the Aura app.
- Get tested on your assigned dates and times.
- Do not visit other residence halls, apartments or fraternity houses besides your own.
- Do not hold or attend unapproved social gatherings in residential spaces.
- Do not leave campus without following the established process for doing so.
- If you are in quarantine, remain in your room and adhere to all quarantine policies.

COVID-19 Update
Wednesday, October 21, 2020, 2:00 p.m.
Dear Albion Community,
Two new individuals who tested positive are currently in isolation and close contacts are being identified. These individuals remain in our thoughts as they focus on recovery. Students are advised to take extra precaution as cases are on a significant rise in Calhoun County, the state of Michigan, and now on campus. We may need to move to impose new restrictions in the next few days if the infection rate is not brought back down to where we had been regularly during the beginning of the semester.
Current COVID-19 Data
5 positives in isolation on campus
2 positive in isolation off campus
13,147 test results and 36 positive cases since 8/4/20
Overall positive testing rate: 0.27%
Population positive rate: 1.8%
National rate: 5.4% | Rate for the state of Michigan: 4.84%
Total # of student cases: 33
Total # of employee cases: 3
Total # of false positives: 1
Risk level: Low-medium
Self-identification of symptoms is very important. We are now seeing positive cases present in each of the following residential locations: Mitchell Towers, Seaton Hall, Wesley Hall, Whitehouse Hall and the fraternity housing. Many students have been quick to report symptoms to the COVID-19 office, leading to rapid identification and quarantine of close contacts.
To keep yourself and others safe, students must self-quarantine immediately and notify if you have any symptoms of COVID-19. Please continue to report symptoms in the Aura app on a daily basis, too. Immediate reporting of symptoms allows us to stop the spread of COVID-19 across campus, which will in turn prevent us from needing to establish further restrictions.
COVID-19 symptoms, as per the CDC, include:
- Fever or chills
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fatigue
- Muscle or body aches
- Headache
- New loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
Managing spread is essential. As a community, we have now crossed a threshold whereby our primary focus has shifted from being solely on prevention to being on both prevention and mitigation of internal spread. Over the next few days, we will continue monitoring closely to see if we must take further action to stop additional spread.
To bring the rate of infection back down, we must all follow these guidelines:
- Complete your daily health screening in the Aura app.
- Get tested on your assigned dates and times.
- Do not visit other residence halls, apartments or fraternity houses besides your own.
- Do not hold or attend unapproved social gatherings in residential spaces.
- Do not leave campus without following the established process for doing so.
- If you are in quarantine, remain in your room and adhere to all quarantine policies.
All of us must live the commitment we made, the Albion Community Commitment, in order to be successful.
