314 Burr Oak St (Substance-Free House)

The Basics

314 Burr Oak is a 15-bed Residence Hall. This living area is designated for students who are substance-free. Its goals are to provide substance-free students safe spaces and a community of other students who do not drink or use substances. The purpose of the house is not to encourage others to not use substances, but to support students who do not. The house will do outreach to first-year students who are sub-free and host programs and events for the campus community.

Room Furnishings

Per Student:

  • XL twin size bed (80” x 36”)
  • Desk and chair
  • Either a chest of drawers (three-drawer unit) or a wardrobe/armoire or closet

Per Room:

  • Mini blinds
  • Carpet

Building your own loft is prohibited. All College furniture must remain in the room throughout the entire academic year.

Albion College cleans the restrooms and common areas.

Internet Access

314 House has wireless access throughout the building.

Key Access

314 House is set up with a card system that allows students to use their Albion1Card as a key to their residential building as well as their individual room.

Community Living Staff

Area Coordinator (AC)

  • A full-time professional staff member hired through the Office of Community Living.
  • 314 House AC resides

Community Advisor (CA)

  • An upper-class student leader hired through the Office of Community Living

Use of Tobacco/Alcohol or other Substances

314 House is a substance-free house and use of substances in prohibited in the house.

Room Sign Up Requirements

314 House residents are selected on a semester-by-semester basis by Substance-Free Campus Selection Committee. Students interested in living in 314 House must apply during the Special Interest Housing phase of the Room Selection Process. Approved individuals will be assigned to a specific room and roommate by the Substance-Free Campus Selection Committee.
