Students Share Scenes from Winter Break

Winter Break

Off-campus students share scenes from their December 2012 holiday season, like KelseyRedwantz, '16, part of a First-Year Experience seminar trip to Hawaii (above).

"I learned about Hawaii's ancient culture at the Volcanoes National Park. It was cool to see petroglyphs preserved in the lava flows in the park, and how the goddess Pele was an important aspect to worship in Hawaii," Redwantz says.

Accounting Team Takes Second in National Competition

Accounting

A team of Albion College economics and management students went head-to-head with some of the country's top university accounting programs to take second place in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) 2012 collegiate Accounting Competition.

"The other schools had ideas that were safer, as it were," said economics and management professor John Carlson, the team's adviser. "I advised our team that their argument wouldn't be popular because it would cost a lot of accountants their jobs. From an economic perspective, however, it would be a good idea in the long run."

Albion’s four-person team -- Peter Curry, Evan Malecke, Don Strite, and John Rogers -- includes students who are specializing in English, history, and public policy, as well as economics and business management.
