Career Visions Connects Students
With Alumni

From left: Claudia Liu, '16, Kacey Anderson, '13, Erin Simon, '98, Annalee King, '14, and Daniel Dai, '14, meet at Senior Helpers.
Four students met with Albion College alumni in Traverse City to see potential internship opportunities. Kacey Anderson, '13, Daniel Dai, '14, Annalee King, '14, and Claudia Liu, '16, all traveled with Tim Newsted, ’78, assistant director of alumni engagement, during fall break for the first in a series of “Career Vision” trips.
“These students gave up their break, and now they have the in-road,” says Newsted. “They met some great alumni.”
Those meetings included Erin Simon, ’98, at Senior Helpers; Branko Gegich, ’80, at Morgan Stanley; Aaron Swanker, ’97, at Flight Path Creative; Gordon Berg, '72, at Interlochen Center for the Arts; Brandy Wheeler, '94, at Meal Tickets and Unusual Ideas; Dianne Hamilton, '75, Anna Marten,'86, Maggie Schmittling,'04, and Tess Williams, '87, at Hagerty Insurance Agency; Allison Beers, ’01, at Events North; Jeff Smith at MyNorth Media – owned and operated by Deborah Fellows, ’78; and several more area businesses.
Albion’s Alumni Engagement Office is teaming up with the Office of Career Development to plan more Career Vision trips – to Chicago on December 17 and Grand Rapids in February.
Albion Legacy: The Prister Family

Front row (l-r): Sue Prister, '81; Danika Prister, '10; Jessica Benko, '08; Megan Prister, '13.
For the Prister family, calling an Albion College degree a “family tradition” is putting it lightly. With two sets of siblings, three spouses, and two generations of Albion graduates, the Pristers have made it almost automatic.
All three of Jim, ’83, and Sue, ’81, Prister’s children have attended Albion College, including current senior Megan Prister, ’13 – the last of three siblings to graduate a Briton.
“It’s a life-long connection,” says Sue.

Wes Dolan, '13, Explores India During Semester Abroad
Wes Dolan, '13, used this past summer to explore India after completing a study-abroad spring semester at the University of Hyderabad.
Dolan is a double major in philosophy and international studies, and studied through the Council on International Education Exchange's Study in India Program (SIP). The East Lansing native took classes in basic Hindi and nongovernmental organizations' role in development through SIP and Indian philosophy and theories in international relations through the university.
Dolen, who chose to study abroad in India because of a longtime interest in Eastern thought, says his visits to NGOs have started to steer him toward a career in social work as well as show him the importance of learning beyond the classroom.

Giving Societies: Lux Fiat Circle
Albion College has long recognized the importance of support from our alumni, parents, and friends. Albion students benefit from these gifts in many ways. Students receive the scholarships funded by donors, study and play in facilities built and maintained with donations, and learn from faculty who are supported by contributions.
Success in Challenging Times
Philanthropic support has never been more vital than it is today as colleges face the some of the most challenging economic times in higher education. Over the years, the College’s fundraising activities have grown and diversified. This fall, we introduced our new Lux Fiat Circle. The Lux Fiat Circle is the leadership giving society of the Albion College Fund. Annual gifts of $1000 or more ensure your place in the Lux Fiat Circle. Gifts can be directed to one of the two areas of critical need within the College: The Briton Scholarship Fund and The Albion College Fund. No matter how you direct your unrestricted gift, you are helping to turn thought into action at Albion College.
Members of the Lux Fiat Circle receive unique opportunities. Learn more about the Lux Fiat Circle
