Art Student Receives Statewide
Ceramics Award

Art major Soe Yu Nwe, '13, adds to her string of undergraduate achievements with the Michigan Ceramic Art Association's 2012 Scholarship Award. The statewide competition, intended to encourage serious students of ceramics, included a $1,000 prize.

An international student from Burma, Nwe knew nothing about ceramics before arriving at Albion College in 2009. She has since won other juried awards for her work, along with two grants from Albion College's Foundation for Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity.

Mark NewellMark Newell, '77, Provides Gift for Library's Center for Teaching and Learning

Innovative approaches to teaching with technology will be at the forefront in a new Center for Teaching and Learning at Albion College. The center, planned as part of the current Stockwell Library renovation campaign, has been underwritten by a gift from Albion College trustee Mark Newell, '77. In addition to Newell's personal contribution, support for this project comes from donations made by his partners in honor of his December 2011 retirement from the international law firm of Latham & Watkins.

Recent Graduates Win Fulbright
Teaching Fellowships

Recent graduates Katie Kirsch, '12, and Sarah Julian, '09, are the latest in a streak of Albion graduate Fulbright winners. As 2012 recipients of Fulbright Teaching Scholarships, Kirsch heads to Rwanda in early 2013 to teach English, while Julian will teach English in Austria.
