The Rev. Dr. Anna Howard Shaw, former president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA), was posthumously awarded an honorary doctorate from Albion College, her alma mater, during the College's May 10 Commencement exercises.
A pioneer girl who put herself through college, seminary and medical school, eventually rising to the national stage as a suffragist, is the focus of a groundbreaking new book by Trisha Franzen (left), professor of women’s and gender studies. Anna Howard Shaw: The Work of Woman Suffrage examines the life and work of one of Albion College’s most distinguished alumnae.
Trisha Franzen, professor of women's and gender studies, recounts a painful yet fortuitous event for Anna Howard Shaw (left), suffrage leader and Albion College alumna, on her February 14 birthday 100 years ago. Franzen has written a biography on Shaw that is scheduled to be published in March.
Distinguished Albion alumni Sherry Penney, '59, shares her expertise on "Next Generation Leadership" with a presentation Wednesday, March 20, at 7 p.m. in Norris Science Center Room 104. Penney's visit to Albion is a highlight event of the College's Women's History month celebration.
