Griselda Iñiguez, '19, figured out early on that hard work and determination were the keys to success. Now, as a senior at Albion College, she has learned those lessons and more, both as a psychology major and as a member of the equestrian team. "I'm a lot more independent," she says.

Moving to Tanzania, Cindy (Cardwell) Fast, '08, expected to see a lot of new sights—but one related to her expertise was especially surprising. "At our land mine training center, every single rat developed this behavior of trotting behind their trainer without any signaling or harnesses attached," marvels Fast (on right in photo, alongside colleague Kate Sears Webb, '16). "The rats aren't trained to do this and are literally free to go wherever they want, but they choose to scurry along behind their trainer."

Now in its third year, Albion's Big Read is a program that inspires young people to love reading and brings the community together through shared reading experiences and arts and humanities programming throughout October. The book discussions are led by local eighth through 10th graders who are part of Albion's Big Read Youth Leadership Program, and among the College volunteers who trained the youth leaders during the summer was psychology major Anna Moore, '19, a member of the Briton swimming and diving team who achieved all-MIAA status in her first two seasons.

"I try to teach [students] that there are oftentimes multiple ways to solve a problem," he says of his teaching style.
