The Music Department is sad to announce the passing of events manager Matthew James Hansen, 33, on September 11 at his home in Haslett.

Matt was a member of the department since 2016. In addition to creating all concert posters and programs, he worked "behind the scenes" editing concert recordings and working with the technology support for events like Lessons and Carols.

A French horn player, Matt was active with orchestras across Michigan including those in Traverse City, West Michigan, Jackson, Lansing, and Ann Arbor. A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, Matt did post-graduate studies at the University of Tennessee and Michigan State University, earning his Doctor of Musical Arts in music performance.

Matt is survived by his wife, Elyse, an infant son Marshall, and their oldest child, Elliot. Also surviving are parents Warren and Charlene Hansen and four siblings.
