Britton, '17, Wins Statewide Award for Study in France

Megan Britton
In a statewide competition, Megan Britton, '17, was one of just two recipients of a study-abroad scholarship from the French-American Chamber of Commerce, Michigan (FACCM). The award supports Britton's current semester at the Université Stendhal-Grenoble.

Peters-Lewis, '96, Gets Middle Schoolers Thinking About College

Nancy Peters Lewis, '96

As executive director of the College and Career Access Center (CCAC) of Jackson, Nancy Peters-Lewis, '96, connects with students and families throughout the community, providing them resources for college and career planning as well as for scholarships and financial aid. On March 19, CCAC organized a Kids2College event that saw more than 230 Jackson eighth graders visit Albion College and get an extended early look at what it means to be a college student.

Bond, '10, Reflects on Impactful Nepal Trip

Wayne Bond, '10, will always be a Briton as an Albion College men's basketball alumnus. To children in Nepal, he's something more, after he delivered nearly 120 books and helped establish an English center during a self-funded trip that stretched from November 14 to December 1. "[Nepal] was a surreal experience," Bond says. "The kids are not walking around with electronic devices like here. There are 6-year-olds playing with rocks or running around playing tag. But these kids are happy. There's not a broken smile."

Kirsch, '12, Markets Health Care in Africa Through Medical Start-up

Katie Kirsch, '12
While Ebola may be consuming Americans' attention regarding health crises in Africa, Katie Kirsch, '12, is working to solve less dramatic but equally critical needs. Kirsch is one of three twentysomething women who together formed Sisu Global Health, a Grand Rapids-based medical device developer and manufacturer focused on an African market. The company recently received a $250,000 USAID grant to further its operations in Ghana.
