E&M Emeritus Maurice Branch Passes Away

Economics and management professor emeritus Maurice Branch passed away February 23 in Chelsea, Michigan, aged 92. Branch, who taught at Albion for 33 years, "was a liberal arts teacher in the sense that he understood economics as a human science and he brought out the humanity in it," said professor emeritus Larry Steinhauer. A memorial service is scheduled for May 10 at 11 a.m. at Silver Maples Retirement Community in Chelsea.

Education Think Tank Selects Baker

Vicki Baker, associate professor of economics and management, was recently chosen to participate in the Elon University Center for Engaged Learning Seminar on Excellence in Mentoring Undergraduate Research. Baker was chosen from more than 70 applicants for the honor.

Albion AICPA Team Returns to the Big Stage

Albion College is back as a player in the annual accounting competition sponsored by the American Institute of CPAs. Albion was the underdog last fall as it was the smallest of the academic institutions to have a team reach the finals in Washington, D.C. This year, the team comprised of students Peter Curry, John Rogers, Victoria Slater and Don Strite and advisor John Carlson are one of 15 to advance to the semifinal round of competition.

Hencsie, ’16, Balances Cross Country with Service to Country

Sophomore Theresa Hencsie is studying accounting and competing in cross country as she follows through on a military commitment. The Troy native enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves during her senior year of high school. “I’m driven toward challenges,” she says. “The thought of proving myself and doing something few Americans do enticed me.”
