As Contact Tracers, Wilson Institute Students Are Out Front in Pandemic Battle

Albion College's Lisa and James Wilson Institute for Medicine aims to be part of finding a way forward during, and after, the coronavirus pandemic. One way is by offering public health options to pre-med students in the form of internships that offer real-world experience—like at Howard Brown Health in Chicago, where Lucretia Woods, '21 (left), and Camari Jones, '23, are serving as recently trained contact tracers in their hometown.

Wilson Institute's Justin Kapke, '21, Checks In from The Philadelphia Center

The aspiring physician assistant and member of the Albion College men's golf team is using his semester off campus to learn directly from healthcare providers in a clinical setting. "My internship mostly consists of shadowing PAs," Kapke says of his experience in the Methodist Hospital emergency department, "but I am also doing some small projects for the volunteer office at the hospital."

Soccer's Megan Bricely, '19, Minds the Net with a Bigger Goal in Mind: Medical School

Albion women's soccer goalkeeper Megan Bricely, '19, is among the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association leaders in saves. The time the Troy, Mich., native spends on the field takes her mind away from medical school interviews. "The interview process involves a lot of research outside the interview," says the biology major and anthropology minor. "The medical schools like to tell the prospective students they are being interviewed by us. I have to come up with questions to make sure it's a good fit."
