Albion College seniors Heather Waldron, Paige Narins and Lauren Wysocki are invited to be part of the Governor's Economic Summit on March 18-19 in Detroit. All three women will participate in regional Young Talent Panel sessions along with attending the general summit.
"It's exciting," said Narins (left in photo). "I was planning to attend but didn't expect the chance to participate on a panel."
The summit is a statewide effort to support Michigan business through networking and sharing information. One main goal of the summit is to "match" businesses with recent college graduates. Governor Rick Snyder has expressed his expectation that a large percentage of young attendees will receive job offers through the conference.
"My time at Albion has shown me that Michigan is where I want to stay," said Narins, an English major and Ford Institute member who came from Pennsylvania after winning a Distinguished Albion Scholarship competition. Narins is currently interning with LiveWorkDetroit and participated last year in an Albion College Sleight Leadership project in Detroit.
"Detroit has a really awesome energy. There are so many people I've come into contact with who are really passionate about making a difference, and don’t subscribe to the notion that Detroit has seen its best days," said Narins. "Detroit offers the opportunity to take the skills I've learned at Albion and be part of the change that's happening."
Wysocki is a biology major and a member of the Gerstacker Institute and Institute for Healthcare Professions. Waldron is majoring in economics and management (emphasis economics) and biology.
