Q: Where is Albion College?

A: Albion College is located in the city of Albion in the south-central area of Michigan, between the cities of Ann Arbor and Battle Creek. Albion is 90 miles west of Detroit and 175 miles east of Chicago, near Interstate 94. It is easily accessible from Interstate 80/90 via Interstate 69. The nearest major airport is Detroit Metropolitan Airport (airport code DTW).

Q: What is a liberal arts education?

A: Albion College's unique academic program is best characterized by the phrase "Always Thinking." A liberal arts education ensures a breadth and depth of inquiry into the sciences, social sciences, humanities, and creative arts. Liberal arts students develop the knowledge and skills that allow for lifelong learning. Q: What makes Albion distinctive?

A: Albion's academic program blends the liberal arts with innovative, pre-professional course work and internships in the sciences, business and economics, medicine, public policy, law, and education. Our professional institutes offer semester and summer internships all over the world. Albion College is also one of the leading colleges in the nation for undergraduate research.

Q: What can I study at Albion?

A: A variety of academic majors, minors, and concentrations are available at Albion College. Students also have the option of designing their own major upon approval of faculty and staff. Albion also offers dual degree programs in engineering, the health sciences, and natural resources. Under these programs, students complete three years of course work at Albion, followed by two years at a partner institution, and then earn both a bachelor's degree and an advanced degree in the respective field.

Q: What is the Albion student body like?

A: Total enrollment at Albion College is approximately 1,500 students. Our student body represents exceptional thinkers from 25 states and 17 foreign countries.

Q: What are Albion professors like?

A: Ninety-one percent of Albion's 105 full-time faculty members hold a doctorate or the highest professional degree in their field. They are accomplished scholars who often involve students in their research. However, their highest priority is teaching and working with students, in and outside of class. Albion has a longstanding tradition of personal attention and concern for every student.

Q: What career services does Albion have?

A: Albion's Career and Internship Center advises students on their career plans beginning in their first year on campus. Upperclassmen work with the Career and Internship Center in locating internships, and for guidance on conducting a job search and applying for graduate school.

Q: How successful are Albion College graduates?

A: Albion College prepares its students well for whatever goals they choose to pursue after graduation. Albion alumni have distinguished themselves in a wide range of career fields.

Q: I have already earned some college credit. Can I apply as a transfer student?

A: Yes. Official transcripts are required from each college or university you have attended. Regarding military training that may apply to a college degree program, Albion College follows the American Council on Education's "Guide to the Evaluation of Education Experiences in the Armed Forces" in awarding academic credit for past course work.

Q: How do I secure my educational benefits under the GI Bill®?

A: You can find out more about your veterans educational benefits at the Department of Veterans Affairs Education and Training webpage. Albion's Admission and Financial Aid Offices will work with you individually to identify all of the aid for which you are eligible.

Q: How can I find a student job?

A: Albion's Student Employment Office assists students with locating employment both on-and-off campus, and maintains job listings online.

Q: How much money will I be able to earn annually?

A: Student wages vary, depending on what kind of job you get and how many hours you work per week. On-campus jobs typically pay $7.40/hour to $9.00/hour. A limited number pay more for specialized work in such areas as information technology. During the academic year, full-time students are allowed to work up to 20 hours/week. When school is not in session, you can work full-time either on-campus or off-campus. Salaries for these jobs vary.

Q: What kinds of services are available for veterans at Albion?

A: Veterans are supported by services including: academic tutoring, psychological counseling, health care, and spiritual/religious counseling. The Office of Intercultural Affairs promotes diversity on campus and advises Albion's many multicultural organizations. Members of the Veterans Advisory Council, composed of veterans and active military personnel currently on the faculty and staff, are also available as resource people. Albion also offers a Veterans Lounge, a place where veterans can congregate along with friends and family members.

Q: What health insurance plans are available?

A: Albion College offers student health insurance through EIIA. TRICARE, for active duty military personnel and veterans, is another option for you to consider.

Q: What are my housing and boarding options?

A: Most students at Albion live on campus. However, veterans are automatically exempted from the College residency and board requirements and so are free to make their own housing arrangements. If you are interested in on-campus housing, accommodations including College-owned apartments are available. More information can be found on the Residential Life Web site.

Q: How do Albion students spend their free time?

A: At Albion College, there are unlimited opportunities to have fun and get involved in campus life.

Q: What if Albion College does not offer a sports club or an organization that interests me?

A: You may design your own student organization or club. We encourage you to think of new ways to make your Albion experience unique.
