Award-Winning Journalist Shares Eating Disorder Journey

Journalist and novelist Marya Hornbacher shares her story of anorexia with the Albion community Thursday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Albion College Norris Science Center Towsley Hall.

Hornbacher has written two bestselling memoirs: "Wasted: A Memoir of Anorexia and Bulimia" and "Madness: a Bipolar Life." She also wrote the novel "The Center of Winter" and two books geared toward recovering from addiction and mental illness. Hornbacher was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in nonfiction for "Wasted," which has been published in 16 languages and is a standard text in the study of eating disorders. Hornbacher is on the faculty of Northwestern University teaching English and writing.

Criminal Profiler Richard Walter to Speak at Albion College

Criminal profiler Richard Walter shares his expertise with the Albion community on Thursday, April 4 at 7 p.m. in the Norris Science Center Towsley Hall. Walter will sign the book "The Murder Room" in the Kellogg Center between 3:45 and 5 p.m. that day.

Walter spent more than 20 years working with the Michigan Department of Corrections. He has also consulted with New Scotland Yard, the FBI and national and local law agencies around the globe. Walter was a founded the Vidocq Society, a group of forensic experts who meet regularly to assist with cases that have stomped local agencies around the U.S. Walter and the Vidocq Society were profiled in "The Murder Room," a popular book by Michael Capuzzo.

Internship in Her Own Words: Liz Elias, '13, Studies Psychology Through Business

"Working in human resources is a combination of business and psychology," Elias writes. "It requires the ability to handle business aspects, such as payroll and benefits, and deal with people on a personal level. ... This summer, I used my psychology studies at Albion College to dive into human resources with an internship at Plymouth Technology."

Walker, '12, Works with VA to Evaluate PTSD Programs

I will be graduating from Albion in December of 2012, because I missed a semester while training for the Marines. Since I was in the military myself, I find it extremely rewarding to have the opportunity to help our country’s veterans. As part of my psychological science studies, I am currently involved in a summer internship at the Department of Veterans Affairs in Battle Creek, MI.
