Career: Core Assurance, PricewaterhouseCoopers

In a nutshell, what do you do?

I will be working for PricewaterhouseCoopers in their Core Assurance practice in Detroit. There I will be working with a team to perform external audits for various clients. The audit will look through the client’s financial statements and ensuring that they are in accordance with GAAP.

Why do you love what you do?

Each day offers a somewhat unique challenge. Accounting is a field that, while it stays constant in the overall tasks and procedures, offers different spins on each issue that keep the job interesting. It also provides me with the ability to work constantly in Excel, utilizing my skills in the program and testing my logical skills. I also like the fact that I get to learn about a variety of businesses and how they operate by observing the different financial statements and supporting information.

How did Albion help you get there?

Albion helped me get a better picture of what I wanted to do with my career. Talking with professors and attending the networking events was a large part of that. Speaking of the networking events, that is a major part of how Albion helped me succeed. Albion provided a well-developed networking of accounting professionals through which I was eventually able to connect with PwC.

What did you like most about Albion?

My favorite part of Albion was the personal attention from the professors. A few of my professors took an interest in my success and how I was going to proceed with my future. They were able to help not only in class but also outside of class which is the benefit of going to a smaller school. Albion made it possible for me to get to know my professors and to know most if not all of the people in my classes and majors.

For me, Albion ...

... was the jumping off point. It provided me with all of the tools I needed to navigate the challenges of finding and preparing for a job while also encouraging me through the times when it was not always easy.
