Tu, '15, Researches Links to Tumor Inhibition

"I was chosen to participate in the Summer Program for Undergraduate Research (SPUR) at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW)," writes the biochemistry and biology major. "I worked in the lab of Dr. Ramani Ramchandran in the Pediatric Research Department. The research project I contributed to may eventually lead to a treatment for humangeoma tumors in infants." Tu is also a member of the Institute for Health Sciences and the Prentiss M. Brown Honors Program.

Silvestri, '15, Enjoying Chemistry in the Lab, on the Field

Joe Silvestri, '15, spent his summer gaining real-world experience in hopes it will give him an edge when its time to apply for medical school. The Detroit Catholic High School product, who achieved distinction on the all-MIAA first team in men's lacrosse last spring, went to work in Cliff Harris' chemistry lab before returning to metro Detroit to continue shadowing physicians.

Gitre, '14, Goes West for Chemistry Research Experience

Haley Gitre, a Dean's List student who has achieved distinction on the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s Academic Honor Roll three times during her career with the Albion volleyball team, was rewarded for her academic efforts this summer through her internship in Jared Shaw’s lab at the University of California Davis. Gitre's internship was sponsored by the National Science Foundation’s Research Experiences for Undergraduates program.
