For Albion Biology Students, a Conference Experience to Remember
Seven students notched a major achievement in their Albion College careers by having their abstracts selected as part of the 2015 Experimental Biology conference, an annual gathering of six leading associations in disciplines ranging from anatomy and physiology to biochemistry and nutrition. For two of the students—Safiya Syed, ’16 (left), and Morgan Carey, ’15—the trip to Boston last month brought additional accolades, ones not usually bestowed on undergraduates.

In Nicaragua, Brugnoni, '17, Gains Perspective Through Service
Over winter break, 27 students belonging to the Global Medical Brigades group at Albion College traveled to Nicaragua on an eight-day mission trip. Among them was sophomore softball player Monica Brugnoni (left), who is studying to become an orthopedic physician's assistant. The native of Saint Clair Shores, Mich., joined Global Medical Brigades last spring because she wanted to broaden her experience in the medical field.

Pre-Vet View: Darby Williams, '16, on Her Sydney Semester
From Sydney, the biology major writes, "Day three of my internship: Euthanizing a pigeon with a broken wing. What did I sign up for and why are they trusting me with this experienced task? A week earlier, I jumped out of a plane over the Great Barrier Reef. Sitting on the edge of a plane and suddenly flying through the air at 10,000 feet is definitely something you do not experience every day."

Myers, '15, Explores Health-Care Innovation at MidMichigan Health
"Hospitals that stay the most current with the changing industry are also the most successful," writes Matt Myers, '15, who completed an internship this summer at MidMichigan Health's MidMichigan Medical Center-Gratiot. "Much of this innovation comes from large multibillion-dollar, urban-based institutions. The issue at hand [at Gratiot] is to provide quality care to a rural community faced with different medical needs."
