Mikaela Falsetti, '16, Lands Job Through LinkedIn Networking

For Mikaela Falsetti, ’16, all it took was a little initiative – and a bit of LinkedIn networking – to get her first career.

Falsetti, a business and organizations and communications studies double major, felt confident using LinkedIn after Troy Kase, director of Albion’s Career and Internship Center, recommended she use the site to look for her next healthcare internship. She made several fruitful Albion alumni contacts in the industry, and ended up getting a lot of good advice.

“I knew when it came time to my job search, LinkedIn was an avenue I could pursue for additional support,” she says.

Falsetti reached out to the vice president of sales at Residential Home Health on LinkedIn, asking to learn more about the company. The VP was impressed by Falsetti’s professionalism and ambition, and offered her a sales specialist position.

“If it was not for me simply sending a LinkedIn message to the VP of Sales, I would have never been connected with this opportunity,” she says.

Falsetti started with Residential Home Health in February, doing research and learning the process, and will become a full-time sales representative after graduation in May.

Her advice?

“Don't be afraid to connect with people, because one of those connections could be your next job,” Falsetti says. “I am forever grateful that a simple connection on LinkedIn is now my first job, even before obtaining my official degree from Albion College.“
