Dave Camp, '75, to Retire from Congress

Albion alumnus Dave Camp, currently serving his 12th term as a Michigan congressman, announced earlier this week that he will not seek re-election this fall. Since 2011, the Midland native has served as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, traditionally considered among the most powerful positions in Washington.

Civil Rights Icon Julian Bond Keynotes MLK Convocation and Community Celebration
A capacity crowd braved the snow and cold January 30 to hear NAACP Chairman Emeritus and civil rights activist Julian Bond deliver the keynote address during Albion College's Martin Luther King, Jr. Convocation and Community Celebration at Goodrich Chapel. Bond drew from his experiences as a history professor and history maker to offer an insightful understanding of the past and future of the civil rights movement.

Remembering Nelson Mandela
"At Albion and across the country our flags fly at half staff to mark the passing of Nelson Mandela," writes Patrick McLean, director of the Gerald R. Ford Institute for Leadership in Public Policy and Service. "It is a fitting tribute to a man who made it his life's work to fight for peace and justice in the face of often overwhelming opposition in his home country of South Africa. ... South Africa's transition to majority rule could easily have descended into violence, retribution and even civil war. It is largely testimony to the strength of Nelson Mandela's courageous leadership that a country so fractured could move relatively peacefully into a new age."
