Albion Makes Princeton Review ‘Green Colleges’ List for 2015

April 20, 2015

Albion CollegeJust a few days before Earth Day, Albion College was named to The Princeton Review's Guide to 353 Green Colleges for 2015. An environmental studies academic requirement, showers for cyclists, locally grown produce in the dining hall and low-energy lighting were among many campus-wide initiatives that placed Albion on the list.

"We strive to have all departments united as 'one college' in meeting our strategic goal of sustainability," said Doug White, associate director of the College's Center for Sustainability and the Environment. Our students learn about green living not only from their classes but also from the management of our buildings, grounds, and dining facilities. They see that a flourishing Albion community will be the best measure of the College’s commitment to sustainability and the liberal arts."

"One reflection of this community outreach will be the launch this summer of Environmental Dashboard," White continued. "This is a system of display screens and websites that will monitor building energy use, show residents voicing their love of the environment and our community, and guide users to local resources for sustainable living."

Albion College is included in The Princeton Review's Guide to 353 Green Colleges for 2015.Albion's green initiatives are good for its recruitment efforts, too. In a press release about the Green Colleges list, The Princeton Review noted that in a 2015 survey of some 10,000 teens, 61% reported that a school's environmental commitment might influence their decision to attend.

Albion was one of only two liberal arts colleges among the nine Michigan institutions to make the list. In compiling the list, The Princeton Review used data it collected from nearly 900 four-year colleges in the U.S. and other countries. Schools with a rating between 83 and 99 (the maximum score) received the "Green Colleges" citation.
