As a part of all trips, we seek to appreciate the region’s natural areas. We spent significant time in Anza Borrego Desert State Park, the Kofa Mountains Wilderness area, and in Joshua Tree National Park. We hiked short distances on the Pacific Crest trail, both near Borrego and near Big Bear Lake. Sunset hikes in the Kofa mountains and up Ryan Mountain in Joshua Tree provided spectacular views of the desert vastness.
These views led to an appreciation of desert viewscapes, and thus a deeper appreciation of concerns related to projects such as the construction of transmission lines which must be resolved in this region.
