ACM Oak Ridge Science Semester (ORSS): Oak Ridge, TN

Subjects: Advanced undergraduate students in STEM disciplines; extra course work may be available. 

Prerequisites: Upper-class majors in:  biosciences, chemistry and nuclear chemistry, computer science, earth and geosciences, energy, engineering, environmental and marine sciences, mathematics and statistics, physics and biophysics, and more.. The program is primarily designed for seniors, but juniors who give evidence of the capacities demanded at Oak Ridge will be considered. Grade point average of at least a 3.0, overall and in their majors.

Length: Fall Semester only

Credit: 3.0 units. 4.0 units available if students add Visiting Faculty-led course or course at Pellissippi State Community College (transfer coursework to Albion College would be on a course by course basis, to be evaluated by the Albion College Registrar’s Office).

Faculty: One faculty member from GLCA or ACM member college. Faculty interests will represent a number of the areas in which Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) conducts research.

Housing: Housing is provided in apartments near the Pellissippi State Community College (PSCC) campus in the Hardin Valley area of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Cost: Albion College tuition, fees and room covers program tuition, fees, and room.

Costs Not Covered by Albion: Travel to Oak Ridge, Tennessee and local travel. Students are responsible for their food, books and other personal expenses. $50 non-refundable ACM program deposit and a $200 refundable housing deposit.

Comments: Comments: Students participating in the ACM ORSS receive a stipend, subject to available funding. This stipend is paid over regular intervals throughout the semester. The stipend is considered income and is taxable. Transportation is available on weekdays between Pellissippi Sate Community College (PSCC) and ORNL. Students may bring their own vehicle if they choose.
