Sissom-Widlak '08 Takes Stock

Halley Sissom-Widlak's New Business Venture Brings Together Her Many Talents

“Determined” is a word easily used to describe Halley (Sissom) Widlak ’08 during her time as an Albion student and equestrian. As an undergraduate, she made time not only to pursue her various interests, but also to excel at them. A double major in Economics and English, she was part of the first class to ride at the newly-constructed Nancy G. Held Equestrian Center in 2004. While there, she boarded her horse and became an integral part of the College’s first hunt seat and dressage teams. In fact, she was the first Albion College rider to qualify for the Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) National Championship show, finishing as reserve national champion for First Level in 2008.

New to Equestrian, Alicia Espinoza, '20, Is Enjoying the Ride

It’s a long way from the Chicago neighborhood of Bronzeville to the pastoral equestrian setting of Albion College. But for Alicia Espinoza, ’20, it was a trip worth making.

“I was always interested in riding,” said Espinoza, who is double majoring in Spanish and psychology with a concentration in neuroscience. “Unfortunately there are not too many opportunities in downtown Chicago.”

Nathan Horsman Brings Wealth of Experience to Albion Equestrian

Nathan Horsman was seven, maybe eight, years old when he'd decided he'd had enough of just about everything.

Horsman smiles at the memory.

"I told my dad I was going to walk to Colorado and train deer and elk how to ride," he said.

Briton Riders Keep Pace in the Region

It was a near-perfect weekend for junior teammates Marjori Boldt and Ashley Butler as they rode winning streaks in their respective divisions to team and individual titles for the Albion College hunt seat team at the Michigan State University doubleheader Nov. 19 and 20.
