Dr. Dennis W. Wahr graduated from Albion College in 1974. Following his undergraduate studies, Dr. Wahr continued his education earning his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Wayne State University. He completed his residency at the University of Michigan and completed his cardiovascular fellowship training at UC San Francisco. As a board certified interventional cardiologist, he practiced for 14 years at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI before leaving practice to begin his entrepreneurial career of developing medical devices.
Dr. Wahr currently serves as President and CEO of Nuvaira, Inc., a private company specializing in developing products for patients who suffer from chronic lung disease.
Dr. Wahr was Co-Founder and past President of Lutonix, Inc., a venture-backed medical device startup company dedicated to developing products for the treatment of vascular disease. Lutonix was acquired by CR Bard in 2011.
Dr. Wahr was also Co-Founder and President of Velocimed, Inc., a venture-backed medical device startup company, also dedicated to developing products for the treatment of vascular disease. Velocimed was acquired by St. Jude Medical in 2005.
While at Albion, Dr. Wahr was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, the Men’s Basketball Team, and the Men’s Golf Team. He was inducted into the Albion College Hall of Fame in 2008. He is also a Mentor Program Volunteer.
Dr. Wahr is married to Dr. Joyce Wahr, who is a Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Minnesota. They have three grown children, Alexa, Christine and Jennifer. The Wahr’s live in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
